User-Friendly Career Guides Help Build the East Bay’s Manufacturing Talent Pipeline

EASTBAYWorks* recently released two series of user-friendly guides that are designed to attract talent into the East Bay’s manufacturing workforce as a part of The Tool Up for Manufacturing initiative: Manufacturing Careers 101 and Manufacturing Careers Path Guides.

Manufacturing Careers 101 guides are designed to help students, job seekers, and workers understand important aspects of working in the manufacturing sector. Manufacturing Career Path guides highlight four career paths in manufacturing including what to expect and how to access them.

Manufacturing Careers 101 Guides

“Why Choose a Job in Manufacturing” makes the case that manufacturing jobs are more likely to offer career growth, training and advancement opportunities, and access to benefits than retail and service jobs.

Reasons to choose a career in manufacturing

“Launch Your Career in Manufacturing” gives sector-specific advice, reinforcing how manufacturing employers value curiosity about and understanding of their production processes.

The Skills Guide shows how jobs and hobbies outside of manufacturing map onto valuable manufacturing skills.

“Everyday Skills are Manufacturing Skills” highlights transferable skills gained through jobs, hobbies, and daily activities that can translate to manufacturing roles, for example building legos or being a nail technician demonstrates fine motor skills that would be valuable for being an Assembler.

“Staffing Agencies in Manufacturing” demonstrates how temporary roles in manufacturing can be entry points into careers, offering strategies and tips for workers interested in the industry.

Manufacturing Career Paths Guides

The Manufacturing Career Path Guides highlight four manufacturing career paths: Machine Maintenance, CNC, Technician, and Manufacturing Welding. They describe job responsibilities, example job titles, types of employers, and salary ranges. They also emphasize how any entry level job in manufacturing can be a starting point, and that training can come directly from an employer or from a local education or training organization.

College and high school students, youth and adult job-seekers, and others will soon see these guides at their schools and career centers, inspiring and informing them about career opportunities in the East Bay’s vibrant manufacturing sector.

All four Manufacturing Career Paths start with the same set of entry level positions, highlighting that there are multiple paths to specializing and advancing.
