Manufacturing is woven into Newark’s history and remains a vital part of the city’s identity and economy. From October 3 through October 9, Newark will proudly celebrate Manufacturing Week 2025 by highlighting local businesses, careers, and the people who keep this industry strong and robust.
Manufacturing has deep roots in Newark. From the production of the Wedgewood stove at the James Graham Manufacturing Company—believed to be the first West Coast stove manufacturer—to modern advanced manufacturing and biotech production, the industry has always been central to the community. Today, Newark is home to more than 70 manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, life science/biotech, and medtech companies that provide almost 8,000 jobs to the region.
As part of the Bay Area’s innovation ecosystem, Newark’s growing cluster of life science, biotech, medtech, and manufacturing-related companies benefit from the city’s central location within the East Bay, as part of Silicon Valley, and adjacent to the Peninsula. Newark is ideally situated near world-renowned universities and research institutions, and has access to the region’s abundant talent pipeline, including those completing specialized certificate programs through Ohlone College.
It is in this welcoming community of innovators that a wide range of companies, including Allogene, Alterity Therapeutics, ATUM, BioChain Institute, Cepheid, Reech Pharma, Triple Ring, Vector Labs, Verdagy, ViOptix, Vitesse Systems, Aspire Bakeries, Cargill Salt, Mathews Mechanical, ProtecPac, Sanmina Corp, Lucid Motors and many more, are thriving and achieving advancements for the modern world.
Modern manufacturing is clean, sustainable, and diverse, with career opportunities ranging from IT and computer science to microbiology, supply chain management, packaging, and automation. These jobs not only strengthen Newark’s economy, but also ensure local residents have access to high-quality employment close to home.
Join us in celebrating Newark’s vibrant manufacturing sector and the companies that continue to build our future. For more information, visit www.newarkca.gov/manufacturingweek.
