 Building the Future in Newark: A Hub for Life Sciences and Modern Manufacturing 
Manufacturing has deep roots in Newark. From the production of the Wedgewood stove at the James Graham Manufacturing Company—believed to be the first West Coast stove manufacturer—to modern advanced manufacturing and biotech production, the industry has always been central to the community. Today, Newark is home to more than 70 manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, life science/biotech, and medtech companies that provide almost 8,000 jobs to the region. Read more about how Newark is building the future.
 

Sustainable Aviation Fuel: Driving Jobs and Innovation in the East Bay 

As the 2025 legislative session in Sacramento gets ready to wind down this week, elected leaders have the opportunity to maintain the East Bay’s leadership in energy innovation by enacting policies that expand the production and use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This is particularly important for some of the East Bay refineries that have made considerable investments in SAF in recent years with the intent of keeping these facilities operating, reducing reliance on imported fuels, and supplying a cleaner product that the world increasingly demands. Read more about the East Bay’s leadership in clean energy.

 

Tool Up for Manufacturing 

EASTBAYWorks (the collaboration between the four Workforce Development Boards of the East Bay) and AMBayArea (the Bay Area Association of Manufacturers) have teamed up to launch a train-the-trainers program to spread the gospel of manufacturing career paths through experiential learning opportunities at real employers. Learn more about the new workforce partnership.

 

Belgium-East Bay Forum – October 6, 2025

The Belgian Economic Mission to California, led by HRH Princess Astrid of Belgium, AWEX – the Wallonia Export & Investment Agency – invites business and community representatives to attend the “Belgium-East Bay Business Forum”. This forum will bring together leading Belgian and East Bay stakeholders to exchange perspectives on innovation and collaboration across sectors such as CleanTech, Food & Beverage, Advanced Manufacturing, and Digital & AI Technologies, and will provide opportunities for discussion and networking.
