The Geography of East Bay Manufacturing

Contrary to the popular narrative that manufacturing no longer occurs in California, manufacturing is thriving and growing in the San Francisco Bay Area, especially in the East Bay. Recent research shows that over 1,000 East Bay companies are making products in industries such as biomedical, food and beverage, electronics, and climate technology, as well as companies that are contract manufacturers and machine shops. Read more on the blog.

East Bay EDA Engages Leaders on Tariff Impacts and North American Trade

On May 23, East Bay EDA Executive Director Stephen Baiter joined a business roundtable hosted by Attorney General Rob Bonta to discuss the tariff impacts on California industries. The discussion brought together business leaders from across the state, which now ranks as the world’s fourth-largest economy. Next week, East Bay EDA, in partnership with the Consulate General Offices of Canada and Mexico in San Francisco, will host a virtual meeting with members and community leaders to explore the ongoing and future impact of U.S. tariffs on North American trade and regional economies.

 

U.S. EPA Brownfield Grants Awarded to East Bay Communities 

Communities impacted by land contamination and blight in Contra Costa County and the City of Oakland were awarded U.S. EPA Brownfield Assessment Grants to conduct brownfield inventories, planning, environmental assessments, and community outreach. Additionally, the Richmond Community Foundation was one of fifteen recipients nationwide—and only one of two in California—to receive a $1 million revolving loan fund to continue their work to carry out cleanup and redevelopment projects on contaminated brownfield properties. Read the announcement.
